Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: September 7, 2026

Fuel Calculator is built with a local-first model. This policy explains what data is used, why it is used, where it is stored, and your privacy choices.

This Privacy Policy describes how Fuel Calculator ("App") handles information. Fuel Calculator is published by the app developer ("we", "us"). If you have privacy questions, contact [email protected].

1. Scope and Core Privacy Model

Fuel Calculator is designed as a local-first app. We do not use third-party advertising, cross-app tracking, or a developer-operated behavioral analytics or profile-building backend. Most app content stays on your device. Supported records and preferences may sync through your private iCloud account when iCloud is available for the App, and purchase and entitlement information is processed by Apple and RevenueCat as described below.

2. Data Categories and Purposes

The App may process the following categories of data for the listed purposes:

  • Trip and calculator inputs: distance, fuel price, consumption, routes, and generated cost estimates to provide core calculations and history.
  • Garage and fuel records: vehicle profiles, mileage, fuel logs, and notes to let you track running costs over time.
  • Saved addresses and map context: custom locations and coordinates so you can quickly reuse frequent start/end points.
  • Precise route recording: when you explicitly start recording a trip on iPhone or iPad, the App processes time-stamped precise locations to create the traveled path and calculate distance, elapsed time, and speed. An active recording may continue using location while the App is in the background or the display is asleep, until you stop the recording.
  • Photos and file attachments: photos you take with the camera and photos or documents you select through Apple system pickers, together with file names, types, sizes, and note associations, so you can attach them to cars, reminders, and history records.
  • Purchase and entitlement information: an automatically generated RevenueCat app user identifier, App Store purchase and transaction history, product information, and Pro entitlement status to display purchase options, complete or restore a purchase, and keep Pro access in sync. RevenueCat also processes purchase history for purchase analytics, including the purchase history and charts available in its dashboard. We use RevenueCat's anonymous identifier and do not link this purchase history to your name or contact details. Purchase information is used for app functionality and analytics, not for tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
  • App settings: units, currency, sorting, and interface preferences to preserve your chosen experience.
  • Support communications (if you contact us): your email and message contents to respond to your request.

3. Local Storage, iCloud Sync, and Sharing

App records and attachment copies are stored locally on your device. When you are signed into iCloud and iCloud access is available for the App, supported records and attachments may sync automatically through your CloudKit private database, and supported preferences may sync through iCloud key-value storage. You control iCloud availability through your Apple account and device settings. Apple processes synced data under its terms and privacy policy.

If you explicitly export or share a car archive, calculation, or other record, the App sends the selected content—including included attachments—to the destination you choose using Apple system sharing controls.

4. Permissions You Control

The App requests permissions only for features you choose to use:

  • Location: for route setup, nearby context, map positioning, and user-started precise route recording. During an active recording on iPhone or iPad, location use may continue in the background or while the display is asleep until you stop recording.
  • Contacts: optional address suggestions from contacts during search.
  • Camera: to take a photo that you choose to add as a note attachment.
  • Notifications: to deliver service and other reminders you choose to schedule.

Apple photo and file pickers let you choose specific existing photos or documents. The App receives only the items you select through those pickers and does not request broad photo-library access.

You can deny or revoke permissions at any time in your device's system settings.

5. Legal Bases (EEA/UK)

If GDPR/UK GDPR applies, our typical legal bases are: (a) contract/performance to provide app features and process or restore a purchase you request, (b) consent for optional permissions, (c) your system-level iCloud choices for cloud sync, and (d) legitimate interests for security, fraud prevention, entitlement integrity, and support communications.

6. Sharing, Selling, and Advertising

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Information is disclosed only as needed to provide a feature you use:

  • Apple: for iCloud/CloudKit sync, MapKit and location services, StoreKit/App Store purchases, system pickers, and system sharing.
  • RevenueCat: for product offerings, purchase validation, restoration, backend-synced Pro entitlement status, and purchase analytics. RevenueCat acts as a service provider and does not receive your trip, garage, location, contact, note, photo, or attachment content from the App.
  • Your chosen recipient: when you explicitly export or share content.

7. Retention and Deletion

Local app records and attachment copies remain until you delete or reset them, or remove the App from the device. Synced copies may remain in iCloud after uninstalling the App until you delete the records or remove them through applicable Apple account or iCloud controls. Apple and RevenueCat may retain purchase and transaction records as needed to provide restoration and entitlement continuity, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. If you email support, we retain related communications only as long as needed to resolve the request and satisfy legal obligations.

8. Security

We rely on Apple platform security controls for device and iCloud storage and on service-provider safeguards for purchase processing. No method of electronic storage is guaranteed to be completely secure, but we apply data minimization and avoid collecting unnecessary personal data through developer-run systems.

9. International Data Transfers

If you use Apple cloud, mapping, or purchase services, or RevenueCat purchase services, related data may be processed in countries other than your own. Those transfers are governed by the applicable provider's privacy and data-transfer safeguards.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, and to limit or object to certain processing. Most app-content controls are available directly in the App or through Apple device/iCloud settings. You can also email us for help with a request involving RevenueCat data.

For EEA/UK users, you may also have the right to withdraw consent and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. For eligible U.S. state residents (including California), you may have rights to know/access, delete, correct, and data portability, subject to verification and legal exceptions.

11. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through developer-operated backend systems.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material updates are reflected by the "Last updated" date on this page.
